Town Office Website, FAQ Page

Ideas on what to do to attract more people that wish to live in Bruderheim

By Walter Schneider

Identification of problems affecting the website operated by the Town of Bruderheim

Town of Bruderheim website — More details of errors and of necessary corrections

This page quotes the text of the FAQ page (with errors and necessary corrections marked in red).

Most of the errors and suggestions illustrated in the quote from the FAQ page for correction were identified in writing to the Town Administration during the interval from May 17 to May 23, 2005.  So far none of the corrections have been made.  The Chief Administration Officer (CAO), Kelly Rudyk, expressed in a one-on-one discussion with me after the Town-Council meeting dated June 1st, 2005 that the disclaimer at the Town of Bruderheim's website absolves the Town of Bruderheim from all responsibilities for posting accurate and up-to-date information at its website.
It is quite clear that the CAO of the Town of Bruderheim lost his perspective of what should be important in this context.  His first priority with the website must be to make it attractive, so as to draw attention to Bruderheim and to attract people to come here.  That requires that the information at the website is useful, correct, up-to-date and presented in correct English in a user-friendly manner.
The first priority of the CAO in that respect must not be to pick contrived legalities to wash his hands of all responsibility regarding the contents of the Town's website.
If he can't do the job properly, let's find someone who can.

It is too bad that that attitude prevails.  The website operated by the Town of Bruderheim has the potential to be a very potent tool for the promotion of information pertaining to the Town of Bruderheim and to the assets it has to offer to potential residents.  Does it need to be said that a website that contains incorrect, out-of-date, incomplete, superficial or misleading information — written in sub-standard English, to boot — will never be very popular and be extremely unlikely to attract new residents to our lovely town?

The public-relations potential of our Town's website, if the website is acceptably well managed, should not be underestimated.  Well managed and made to be attractive according to professional standards, our Town's website could easily attract, and provide information to, many more times the number of individuals than those that the management and staff of our town administration could otherwise hope to come in contact with.

To add insult to injury, the link to the page that is supposed to contain information on town council still contains no such thing.  Instead it still contains the worn-out welcoming message by our mayor.

Information on this site is subject to the following disclaimer.

Details of errors in others of the Web pages of the Town's website will be shown when they are discovered.  Additional Web pages will be added here to accomplish that as required.

Update 2006 10 29: There is no point in perusing any other web pages of the Town's website.  The Town Office staff appear to have trouble coping with changes to one page that were identified more than a year ago.  What's the use of identifying more than they can handle?
The Town's website is proof that information that is incorrect or out-of-date generally does not improve if left alone over time.  If left alone, things will always tend to go from bad to worse.
